The word al-Ahzaab translates to 'the allies', 'the confederates', 'combined forces', ...
Surah al-Ahzaab is about the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions (رَّضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ) fighting wars against the disbelievers. The aim is to establish the Deen of Allah, that is the Divine Laws, in the Land.
In Allah's Deen, sex is only permitted between legally married man and his wife. A man has to first ratify a covenant with the woman he intends to marry, known as 'Nikah', whereby he undertakes the physical and financial responsibility of his wife and the family that will come through them. Only then can the marriage be consummated.
Allah's Deen does not allow sex with other people. Adultery is a punishable offence. The adulteress and the adulterer are both to be flogged a hundred stripes (Q24:2). The adulterer can only marry an adulteress or a disbeliever, and the adulteress can only marry an adulterer or a disbeliever. The believers (in Allah's Deen) are prohibited from marrying such a person (Q24:3).
Rape is universally recognised by all humans as a crime, and as a horrible act. It is used as a weapon of torture and triumph by non-believers in Allah's Deen. Throughout human history, women have been raped. Non-believers in Allah's Deen, and the hypocrites among the Believers, have historically, and still want to, 'secularise' family laws to 'liberate' from the strict laws of Allah's Deen.
Therefore, non-believing nations want to eliminate the believers by all means, whether it is through cultural and social corruption, or through armed combat.
Surah al-Ahzaab begins with the guidance to the Prophet ﷺ to not to obey the non-believers (ٱلْكَفِرِينَ) and the hypocrites (ٱلْمُنَفِقِينَ) (Q33:1); to follow the guidance as revealed (Q33:2); it reminds the Prophet ﷺ of the covenant ratified with the prophets (Q33:7), and then goes on to relate how the truthful stand with the Prophet ﷺ in fighting battles to establish Allah's Deen.
Towards the conclusion of the Surah, we read the above quoted ayaat (Q33:57-62) which are about the protection of the wives and daughters of the Believers.
And Allah knows best!
