The Quran speaks of a future time when the Earth's climate will drastically change. Over fourteen centuries have passed since The Quran was revealed. The average global temperature has risen since then, and many markers are becoming more and more evident. People worry about the future of the planet. They wonder how to control the climate, or where to escape to. There is a search for a planet with water to which a select few could perhaps migrate and populate. The rest ...
This graph was published in 2008, and represents the knowledge available then:
Attribution: NASA | Temperature histories from paleoclimate data (green line) compared to the history based on modern instruments (blue line) suggest that global temperature is warmer now than it has been in the past 1,000 years, and possibly longer. (Graph adapted from Mann et al., 2008.)
The Quran informs us that if Allah ﷻ were to take humans to task for what they have earned, He would not leave on the Earth a single living creature. Our planet is becoming increasingly un-liveable for most animal and plant life.
The Quran informs us that Allah ﷻ is allowing all this to happen till an appointed time, fixing most of the damage. However, Allah ﷻ allows us to experience some of the corruption that has appeared on land and sea due to human works, so that we can experience a part of the consequence of our deeds, and thereby return. That there should be no change in the creation of Allah ﷻ is a standing law (Deen).
The Quran speaks of the opening of gates of the sky. It informs us of some people ascending to the sky. It informs us of 'gardens beneath which rivers flow' that are as large as the sky, or even larger. Gardens in which all fruits, and palms, and pomegranates grow. Gardens where humans can dwell forever.
The Quran also informs us of the Earth's waters boiling up, inflamed. It warns of a huge earthquake that will shake up everything. It warns of the day when the criminals will be exposed to the fire. It warns that they will not be able to ascend, that the gates in the sky will not be opened for them, until the camel can pass through the eye of the needle (devolution of species?). Then, there will be some people who will remain upon known areas on Earth for an undefined period of time, not knowing if and when they will be allowed to ascend to the gardens above the sky.
The Quran states that every person who wishes to ascend to the Gardens has the opportunity to apply and prepare to meet the minimum requirements, at least.
The Quran warns that many people will never be able to escape Earth. It will be a choice they themselves willingly made. They will not be wronged.
There is no compulsion in the Deen.
The Quran requires that the Earth should not be corrupted after it has been reformed. This implies that in the ancient past, there have been other massive corruptions, and divine intervention was needed to reform it.
The Quran repeatedly enjoins acts of reform, personal and public. An example of such an act is that done by Dhu al Qarnayn. He contained the Earth-corrupting Gog Magog by building something that would seal their point of entrance.
A Hadith famously attributed to our dear Prophet Muhammad ﷺ gives the guidance that even if the Earth is about to end, and a person can plant a shoot of a plant, he should do that act of reform: https://sunnah.com/adab/27/4.
The Quran informs us that the Gardens will be granted to us as an inheritance. We need to act responsibly towards the Earth to show that we are worthy of the grand inheritance that has been promised to the Believers who fear the Day of Reckoning, and keep their duty.
